This means I can carry around a thing that is the same weight as a real iPad so I can get used to it in my bag. Actually, this is just a shiny version of a real product that will be used for prototyping cases, stands and such.
The back was printed at NextFab Studio out of ABS. The front was cut at Surbeck Waterjet from a scrap of glass left over from a job for P Diddy’s house. Version 2 will be CNC routed out of MDF. This will make it cheaper, but not the prefect weight.

I just got the back half from NextFab Studio. This half was 3D printed with white ABS on their Stratasys machine. The other half is a piece of water jet cut black glass from Surbeck Waterjet. The glass has a special story with it, but I’ll save that for the next post on this project.
The completed 3D files will also be up on Thingiverse.

The print took 1.5hrs for each half on a Makerbot at Hive76 and I welded each half together with Weldon, a nasty solvent. It mounted nicely on replacement hammer handle.
I need to tweak the design a little. See if you can spot the obvious mistake. When it’s done, it will go up on Thingiverse.
